Standards Promotion

A well orchestrated plan has been drawn up for improved adoption of Guyana standards by industry, large scale purchasing organisations, statutory bodies and universities.  The plan lays emphasis on:

  1. Company standardization;

  2. Effective implementation of standards through sectoral committees, such as those dealing with Foods, Rice, Furniture/Handicraft etc;

  3. National committees on Standardisation and Quality Systems to ensure better implementation of Guyana standards;

  4. Use of Guyana standards in legislation;

  5. Greater interaction with public and private sector undertakings;

  6. Basing public purchases on standards and standard marked products;

  7. Use of standards in educational system; and

  8. Intensified media campaign to create standards awareness.

GNBS has also accepted the Code of Good Practice for the preparation, adoption and application of Standards.  In order to fulfill the resultant obligations, GNBS publishes a detailed Work Programme for each of the fifteen Technical committees (under which standards are formulated) twice a year on December 31 and June 30.  The work programme contains committee wise positions on standards published and draft standards (like preliminary, wide circulation and finalised draft standards) at different stages of preparation.
