Guyana’s Voice at Codex

With the application for and approval of financial support from the Codex Trust Fund, Guyana will have the opportunity to have its voice heard and participate in the Standards setting process of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC).

For the year 2005, Guyana has applied for and received funding for the participation in three (3) sessions of the CAC, namely (1) the 27th Session of the Codex Committee on Fish and Fishery Products held from February 28 – March 04 in Cape Town, South Africa;(2) 33rd Session of the Codex Committee on Food Labelling from May 09 – 13 (Venue to be announced); and (3) 14th Session of the Codex Committee on Food Import and Export Inspection and Certification Systems from November 28 – December 02, (Venue to be announced).

Delegates identified to attend these Sessions are, Mrs. Marilyn Collins, Director, Food and Drug Department and Dr. Colin James, Principal Veterinary Public Health Officer, Veterinary Public Health Unit.

It is anticipated that Guyana’s participation at these sessions would allow for our voices to be heard at the highest forum of standard setting for food and related products, highlighting the concerns of our stakeholders.

Also, it facilitates a forum for our Stakeholders to comment on the level of Compliance with the requirements of the Standard and provides the opportunity to establish limits that are attainable, fair and transparent in the food trade.
