TIPS ON PURCHASING USED TYRES
Here are some useful tips for owners of vehicles and
drivers to consider when purchasing used tyres.
-
Know the
brand, model, size and type of your current tyres. If in doubt check the
sidewall of the tyre which would be marked with this information or
consult with the owners manual for the vehicle
-
Know the purpose and application of the tyre, for
example:
What kind of tyre best suits the vehicle? Will the tyre be used on a car
or a mini-bus
Note: that the load limit for passenger car tyres is different
from that of mini-buses and other heavy duty vehicles
-
Check the sidewall of the tyre which would state
relevant information such as the DOT Rating, the size, designation and the
maximum permissible load range.
-
The minimum tread depth should be 4 mm.
-
There should be no broken, damaged or exposed bead
wires, no ply or tread separation and no sidewall scufficy.
-
Do not purchase tyres that were stored in the sun for
long periods because this causes damage to the tyre.
-
Do not purchase tyres that are deformed (bent out of
shape).
